Origins of @EclipseJavaIDE and developer-oriented marketing
Speaker(s):
Sopot Cela (Red Hat Inc.)
The https://twitter.com/EclipseJavaIDE account has become a source of daily tips on the Eclipse IDE used by thousands of developers every day. Every month we get between 300'000-350'000 impressions through Twitter alone. That's progress from our days with 4 followers some months ago and shows this was missing.
Sopot Cela is the one taking care of its strategy and will take us into a journey of how it came to be, how it is managed every day and what its plans are.
What does it mean for a developer to lead an essentially marketing effort? Is it best done by a purely marketing person? Or by a developer with some marketing affinity?
We will talk about all this and a lot more. We'll take a look at how the high-level strategic challenges effect the flow and even down to the small details (how you choose words) and the impact that they have.
Lastly we will analyze the impact on the community through analytics and how they are exploited to correct the course. The plans to extend this into a fully fledged multiple-channel campaign, including from inside the Eclipse IDE itself will also be briefly touched.
