Othercide Review (PC) | Othercide Is A Muddled Tactical Horror
This Othercide review isn’t broken: the game looks like that. It’s a colour-free mash-up of turn-based tactics and rogue-lite horror - and a bit muddled. Matthew talks through the good and the bad with some shiny Othercide gameplay (PC).

This Othercide review, not to be confused with an Otherside review, was captured on PC, but we played most of it with a controller, so we can vouch for the Xbox and PS4 versions. It’s an interesting mash-up of tactics and roguelite that focuses your thinking on the tactical timeline (which is neat), but slows itself down with permadeath and repetition (which is not). This isn;t to say our Othercide test is completely negative - we can appreciate the good ideas, while longing for a few tweaks - but it’s maybe worth waiting for a sale. As you can see from this Othercide PC gameplay, it’s not a visually taxing game, so you don’t need a mega rig to play it.
Lightbulb Crew’s monochrome world caught our eye when we saw Othercide gameplay a few months ago, but it’s a style that does wane the longer you look at it. It doesn’t help that the death cycle means you see so much of the same stuff over and over again - there’s just not enough variables to keep us happy. That’s the big complaint throughout our Othercide review: there isn’t enough variety in each run to make the repeating structure work. You end up focusing on a handful of super powerful characters, which narrows the action the more you play. Of course, if you do pick up the game, we’d be keen to hear your Othercide verdict, too - if you have a dramatically different experience, do let us know.
And if you have any questions about Othercide, make sure to put them on the other side of this side - well, technically underneath the video. Matthew will answer any query you have. Curious about Othercide story or just want to know how long is Othercide? Othercide length is tricky to pin down as your mileage may vary based on how easy a run you have. It’s not going to turn into a hundred hour obsession. But I’m just repeating what’s in the Othercide review now, so just watch the video instead.
