The Defender gets some new features with what Otterbox calls Ion Intelligence. The case is basically a Defender with a built-in battery and accompanying iOS app. The battery is a 1450 mAh battery with a micro USB charger. The app portion of the system monitors the iPhone battery and delivers charge only when needed. So this means a more efficient charging system and no need to toggle charging switches.

The Defender with Ion Intelligence will be available this spring for the iPhone 4 and 4S, and iPhone 5 later in the year. The case is expected to sell for $130.
