I guess you could try to just get the feeling of animation and practice a bit by doing some simple things or something. And if you feel confident that you have an idea how things work, you could also watch a few reference videos or find some animations and pick a style that you like, and really try to study it; get a good idea how things are portrayed like the motions, weight, etc...
