I've previously uploaded a few videos of 2 player games of Outrun 2 and Coast 2 Coast on the original Xbox before using a system link cable, but this is the first time I've recorded a PC one over a wireless LAN. There are definitely a few more gremlins in the system doing it this way compared to an Xbox system link... At times the the other player's car just appears and disappears in the other players screen and other times appears to be pin-balling all over the shop.

I suspect that there are probably some latency issues due to it being a wireless network on PC compared to an Ethernet crossover cable that's plugged directly into two dedicated games console. There were also a few framerate hiccups going on the older PC, no doubt caused by FRAPS, which may have additionally contributed to the two games getting out of sync (the timers almost immediately get out of sync). In two of the games we played this lead to a situation that shouldn't happen, where the timer ran out for one player just before a check point, but the other was able to make it through because they still had a few seconds left, meaning one player was on a Game Over screen whilst the other was still playing.

Both games are benefiting from the Outrun 2 FXT Beta 2.0 hack created by Howard Casto from the BYOAC forum and were being played with wheels. Now, when I uploaded some multiplayer Daytona USA videos recently where all three of us that were playing were using DS3 pads, I kept blaming my poor performance on the pad and the fact I'm more used to a wheel. Here the opposite is true.

I know, I know, excuses, excuses. Whilst the steering using a wheel is far more accurate and precise than with a pad, I was having issues trying to get my brain used to initiating drifts using my feet with a quick tap on the brake and back on the accelerator. I think a lot of the time I was inadvertently braking for too long, just because I was being cack-footed, and taking corners far more slowly than I would normally. I swear though that there were a couple of times I hit the brake and started turning to try and initiate a drift and the bloody car just kept going straight... Still, it's cool to get all the force feedback effects that you wouldn't with a pad.

Oh, and the two games are being played on a monitor and a TV that are different aspect ratios, hence the different sized screens. I'm the red car in the widescreen on the right. My buddy Lights is the blue car in the 4:3 screen on the left.
