Overboard! ( Shipwreckers! ) [ Playstation ] - Intro & Gameplay
Lately, I've gotten more and more interested in Pirates. I mean I always have been but more sky and space, but now actual pirate-pirates. Tw'ould seem a match made perfect with my love of Skeletons, Ships and Water. And having watched through Black Sails which was amazing and suffered the heatwave across the planet, I finally sat down to record a few Intro & Gameplay videos again.
This is Overboard! - Known in America as Shipwreckers!
Developed and published by the notorious company Psygnosis, known for a lot of weird, amazing and cool games in 1997, I had the fortunate luck of playing this game as a demo first and I absolutely loved it. But as typical of great games like this, I could never find it in any stores.
Even in the early days of internet connectivity, people had no idea what the game " Overboard! " was when I'd ask them. It wasn't until years later when I found out that it had a different name in America where it was called " Shipwreckers! " instead.
Gameplay is simple yet extremely challenging. You are the Captain of a Pirate Galleon ( I believe it is ) and your goal is to blast harbors into submission by destroying their defenders, avoiding traps and stage hazards, while finding secret areas and weapons to deal with the increasingly harder enemies. Enemies including makeshift aerial bombers. slopes, other Galleons and more, and you having weaponry like broadside cannons, missiles and flamethrowers.
Released somewhat early in the PS1's lifespan where 3D Technology was amazing, you have 3 different view perspectives to choose from. Top down, Isometric'ish, and Chase cam. They did not corners with this game I tell you like developers do in modern times like ,if there's a game that features a top down view, they'll rarely if ever actually have a skybox.
The game also have a multiplayer mode but I have yet to try it out but, I highly recommend this game. It's a lot of fun.
