Before being overshadowed by Major Stryker, Raptor: Call of the Shadows, and Tyrian, there was this one EXCELLENT and challenging MS-DOS shmup from 1992 entitled Overkill, originally developed by Tech-Noir Productions and Ste Cork.

This game is *rather* notable for its spectactular use of EGA 16-color graphics ever on MS-DOS, and the power-up system is quite similar to Gradius where you grab Weapon Selector capsules to go through the list of weapons and upgrades, and then press the "Z" or "Tab" key to activate that highlighted item. The arrow keys are to move your ship, and the "Space" key is to fire your main weapons.

Also, Overkill offers some powerful upgrades that turn your ship from a Scout to a Fighter, and then finally to a Battle Cruiser, letting you power-up your ship even more to such AWESOME new heights!!! ^_~=b !

And not only do you have built-in shields that can sustain several hits from bullets and enemies, but just one IMPORTANT thing to keep in mind as well: the vertical bar meter on your heads-up display is your fuel gauge that drains and drains slowly as you progress through the game. Run out of fuel, and your game is *automatically* over, no matter how many lives you have left... so be extra careful and grab up the fuel supply tanks to fill 'er up again!!! ^^

Here in the conclusion of two parts of my full no-miss demonstration, I fought my way hard through planets Voltair, Pax Verde, and "unknown!", representing the final three levels of the game for a grand total of six. And I did it all without even losing a SINGLE ship at all, too!!! ;)

In the meantime, the game's original author Ste Cork has *officially* declared this full-version game freeware on July 23, 2008, so to grab this hot classic of an MS-DOS shmup, go to this link right here:
