ashlands feels most like the swamps to me. very flat terrain, occasional trees and rocks you can jump onto. running from enemies often flushes you into other enemies. enemies often flush you into terrain traps (deep water in swamps, lava in ashlands).
dragging a trail of enemies causes them to friendly fire each other. this is an important design mechanic that the player must be willing to exploit from time to time.
