...it's been a while since I posted a PA video. Hell, been a while since I've played the game. Steam says I last played it October 11th, which might've been the last time I streamed.
I would have tried to beat an older level, but... well, I wanted to play something a little more relevant and recent. So, I looked at the steam workshop, and downloaded a few levels that caught my eye.

So, this was made for the recent contest. The theme was "shadows". For literal shadows, this isn't all that great, as the level seems to have more of a medieval theming than strong shadows. "Shadows of the past", on the other hand, this does a nice job with. It's a bit of a stretch, but I could justify a narrative of a kingdom falling to war and someone reminiscing about friends they lost to it.

Gameplay-wise, this was overall fairly well paced. Each segment seemed to be one difficulty step up from the last in a very smooth way. There were some notable issues, however.

As you can see, at the start of the level, you can just stay in the middle and dodge the horizontal attacks. You can also do something similar for the vertical attacks if you get lucky RNG. Even without the lucky RNG, you can still dodge most of the vertical attacks this way, as I did in the video.

The transition at 1:12 is much harder than the rest of the level. I feel there are just too many arrows and the screen becomes too cluttered to really find a great/consistent safe spot.

The transition at 1:34 wasn't all that well telegraphed. Not as difficult as the one at 1:12, but much more stressful in my opinion.

I love how the hexagons from 1:20 return at 2:25, but fall instead of rolling the whole way. Something about this interaction just feels... satisfyingly natural. A progression which was obvious once it was shown, yet unexpected beforehand.
It also helps with the "shadows of the past" concept. Of course, assuming that's how "shadows" was meant to be interpreted.

The swords, arrows, and hexagons on the ground at the end also help refine said concept by adding a darker feel, showing the stillness after a battle, the silence of the dead.

Overall, amazing level. Glad this was one of the first I played when first recording again.
