Pac-Man World 3 (Dolphin emulator) - Part 1
Well, we've finally reached the end of the road for this era of Pac-Man "reboot" games. We're finishing on a game that, in the past, I didn't really care for (as you can tell by my thoughts early on in the recording), but I'm maybe starting to like and appreciate more here on my second playthrough.
As you can tell even from the video thumbnail, the visual styling of this game is a drastic departure from previous titles. Gone are the vibrant and multi-colored cartoony stages based around various distinct themes (like Pirate, Space, Forest, Haunted Island, etc.), and in their place are a lot more muted psuedo-realistic and monochromatic environments, meaning centered around one color primarily (e.g. green, pink, blue). However, I seem to like them a bit more now than when I was younger. I think I just had my heart set on it being a bright, cheery, and colorful game at the time, and was disappointed when the opening set in Pac-Village gave way to the dreary toxic underworld.
Anyway, arguably more controversial than the graphics is the slight change in gameplay focus. Rather than being a straight platformer, the game introduces combat mechanics into the mix, with some controversial changes to the core platforming gameplay happening as a result (e.g. butt bounce no longer goes higher than your normal jump). This above all else is why this game still has mixed impressions to this day, although to be fair PMW3 still does have a lot of fans too.
By the way, for some reason this game goes for long periods of time without music, and that's the way it was designed. In these moments, I will try to add my own music in post, because I know it's boring to just listen to dead silence. Lord knows I didn't care for it when it happened too.
That's all I have to say for today. I hope you all enjoy.
