Panagiotis Kontoleon, head of the National Intelligence Service in Greece, resigns
It turned out that the National Intelligence Service in Greece illegally tapped the phone of the opposition leader and a journalist. The head of the Intelligence Service, Panagiotis Kontoleon, resigned.
Head of the Intelligence Agency, Panagiotis Kontoleon, submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis on the grounds of "carelessness in the information gathering process".
Nikos Andrulakis, leader of the Movement for Change, one of the opposition parties, filed a criminal complaint with the Greek Supreme Court on the grounds that an attempt was made to illegally tap his phone.
Andrulakis, using the European Parliament's special service on June 28, had his phone checked if it was being tracked with spyware.
In the first examination on the phone, a suspicious link related to the spyware named "Predator" was detected.
In April, spyware was detected on the mobile phone of a Greek journalist.
It was stated that the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be replaced by Kontoleon, who has been in office since 2019.
