Scenario 4: Ponyri Part 2
Played on Rommel (-50% prestige) and customized equipment file with changes listed here: http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30708
Due to the changes to the equipment file, this Grand Campaign is very challenging.
Operation Citadel begins! The Soviet salient at Kursk seemed like an obvious place for a pincer attack, and if the Soviets there could be defeated the German position in the east would be greatly improved.
For months the Germans prepared, marshaling their forces, concentrating tanks and assault guns, waiting for the new Panther tanks and Ferdinand tank destroyers. These new weapons may be powerful, but they are also rare and prone to mechanical troubles. The bulk of the German armor still consisted of Panzer IIIs, Panzer IVs, and StuG IIIs. But the Soviets had not been idle during this time. They prepared an in-depth defense consisting of multiple layers of fortifications and mobile armor reserves to counterattack any breakthrough.
The norther sector of the Kursk bulged is noted for its difficult terrain. Infantry tactics are critical to success.
Note: I spend a lot of time silently thinking about moves in this scenario, so for long stretches nothing may happen.
