UML has a long history of usage in the embedded world. Since the mid-1990's many tools have been developed targeting embedded systems to provide full code generation from models. Over the years, the modeling language has moved from proprietary (e.g., ROOM) to standardisation within the OMG's UML efforts. Most of the commercial tools that remain are still based on the same technology that existed 10-15 years ago. With the UML for RealTime profile and MARTE available on top of the Papyrus platform, we can now have a modern implementation of a tool addressing the specific needs of the real-time, embedded developers. This talk will present a short history of the tooling around this domain and show how Papyrus can be used to address the needs and is now poised to be the next embedded development tool.
