The very first Parodius game, a game most people didn't even know existed, let alone came before Parodius Da!

And I see why. It also happens to be the worst of the series, if not the worst Gradius game ever made.
It boils down to this: It sounds like Parodius - the music rocks as always - in fact Parodius Da! takes a good chunk of it's soundtrack from this game.
The games still silly, even if the awful graphics don't convey the same joy. Hell - Parodius Da! even takes some of it's bosses from this game!
It's definately Parodius, so why is it so bad?
Well, it has alot of clever ideas. Unfortunately those ideas are badly executed and lead to alot of frustration. The Second boss is a good example of this. And the final stage, while it might've seemed like a good idea on paper to block to player's access unless they have a certain power up - in reality it leads to... well... I threw my controller. I never do that. The only other game to get me this wound up was Metroid Prime 2's Spiderball Guardian, for equally "it seemed like a good idea on paper" reasons.

The scrolling one block at a time doesn't help. I had to play this in short batches because it gave me a headache. The game really does scroll that slowly! That's not me recording it wrong!

Had some of these not-so-good sections not been in the game - or better yet - done correctly, you'd have a very clever shooter on your hands. As it stands - it's simply one of the most frustrating games ever made.

Do yourselves a favour - and skip this Parodius. Parodius Da! takes alot of the good ideas from this game, so you're better off playing that.

Altough I don't think it needs stating - the game's set to hard. Yay, I made things even more frustrating!
