Hm... Doesn't it kind of feel that the dialogue is intended to steer your interpretation in the right direction, rather than being a part of the narrative on its own merit? Well, either way, Disc Two IS ON! And the end of just about everything is looming right there in our face - so obviously we'll have to see to Dmitri Yuriev before we do anything else. I feel the shift in focus is a bit jarring - I think it would feel more organic to just skip to the part where we enter Abel's Ark. Of course, we can't just FORGET a prick like Yuriev...
Also: SHOPPING SPREE! Updates to the inventory all around, for both ES and characters.

For those whose interest bends that way: By my estimate, it's a little over an hour from the cutscene leading up to the Asura 27-fight to the point where you regain control on the Elsa. Discounting the time spent fighting.
(So, obviously, if you're not into narration and characters speaking to each other, AT SOME LENGTH, Xenosaga is NOT your cup of tea.)
