Passage Based Questions
Direction Answer the questions on the basis of your understanding of the following passage and related studied concepts:
Sound travels about 5 times faster in water than in air. The speed of sound in sea water is very large about 1500  m / s. Thus, two whales in the sea which are hundreds of kilometres away can talk to each other easily through sea water. Similarly, sound travels about 15 times faster in iron (or steel) than in air.
Since, the speed of sound in steel is very very large (being about 5310  m / s which is more than 1800  km / h ), we can hear the sound of an approaching train by putting our ear to the railway line made of steel even when the train is far away. Many objects like aircrafts, rockets travel at speeds greater than speed of sound in air known as supersonic.
The distance of a gun from a man, if the flash of a gun is seen by a man 3  s before the sound is heard is (speed of sound in air is 332  m / s )
