This was one tough cookie to crack. Even after reading several suggestions I could not work this one out. The solution came to me after hours of trial and error: the two robots need to be in THE SAME ROOM: one holding the platform, the other on top of the cube behind him. Point the hammer at the gate, then drop it into the platform (wait for the hammer outline to show up in the right place before setting it down).
