Patreon and the Dangers of Porting Commercial Games for Fun
Retro gaming fans are a unique fanbase. Some, that have the skills, actively hack, adjust, port, recreate, etc classic games, often for classic consoles – sometimes porting to newer platforms. Development is done in their free time, for the most part – the number of independent homebrew developers making a living off their work is surely low. That leaves developers having to be just as unique about how they fund their projects of love. Patreon is a growing in popularity option, unfortunately, it also comes with a few concerns.
