Jack Crane talks about inspirations and being honest to your Kickstarter backers.

We caught up with Handyman Studios' Jack Crane to discuss the upcoming indie title Edge of Space. He talks about influences from various games including Terraria, Metroid, Minecraft and Star Wars Galaxies for this terraforming sandbox adventure.

"We were definitely inspired by Terraria, but it was pretty much, we wanted... we have always loved sandbox games. We wanted to create something where we could start creating an open ended experience - where you would have scalular complexity components - meaning you can come in easy and the more that you dig into it there's more for you right there. But if you want to stay on the top line you could do that as well. We wanted to add to a lot of the mechanics that Terraria started."

The game has taken a little bit longer to develop than initially thought, something Crane adressed:

"Kickstarter people have been very patient with us. In the beginning we had kind of a different schedule, but we definitely learned quickly that we had kind of misestimated. But because we've been honest with our Kickstarters from the beginning and we're very open about everything they've been very cool and very patient about our development."
