A top down shooter with a Western theme. Secret Ponchos is a beautifully designed indie title that hopes to bring some ascepts of the fighting genre into the shooter space. We talked to Yousuf Mapara about the new game on the PAX East showfloor.

"It's kind of a weird hybrid between a team shooter and a fighting game. We really wanted to do two things. We wanted to do a game with a cool art style and we wanted to do a game that has kind of a new type of gameplay."

"When we moved the camera over top a bunch of new opportunities for new mechanics arous. The primary one we noticed is all of a sudden spacing became a very heavy component. If you're range is like ten metres and a guy is twelve metres away... You need to jump in two metres, shoot him, and jump out."

"When you watch the spaghetti westerns. When they shoot there's like big white puffs of smoke all the time. Someone told me they put chalk in there. We're trying to emulate that and have like big gun smokes and trails from their guns and stuff like that."

Secret Ponchos is being targeted for digital release on consoles, but no platform specifics are available at this point in time. A "summer" release date is hinted at in the interview, but as with many smaller digital releases it depends a lot on when an opening presents itself for publishing on PSN and/or XBLA.
