R-Type Complete is a 2D side scrolling shmup for the Turbografx/PCEngine CD.

R-Type has an interesting history on the Turbografx-16. When the HuCard version was first released in Japan, the game was split into to games: R-Type part I, and R-Type part II. To clarify, when you see a HuCard titled "R-Type part II", that's the second half of the first R-Type game, not a sequel. Whether this was due to limitations of HuCard technology at the time (as rumor states), or an intentional way of milking fans, it was a letdown. For the later North American release, R-Type was released on one HuCard as a full game. Japan, however, was stuck with the segregated half-games.

R-Type Complete finally combined part I and part II for the Japanese audience. This is a full version of the game. It also adds remixed music, fully voiced cut scenes, an extra boss fight, and some other minor changes.
