Penn State Football: PSU offense vs Arkansas Defense preview
0On Saturday, Penn State football faces Arkansas in the Outback Bowl with a less than full complement of players. With both Jahan Dotson opting out and Rasheed Walker not playing in the bowl game, the math has changed for the Nittany Lions. So how does that change what happens on the field? First, host Thomas Frank Carr has scouted the Razorbacks and broke down their strengths and weaknesses.
He starts with the strength of the Arkansas defense, the linebackers. First, he explains how the Razorbacks front-seven works and why that unit is so essential to the defense. Next, he describes how the size and speed of the linebackers for Arkansas could also be a weakness. Could Penn State take advantage of this?
That takes him to the next important part of the Arkansas offense, six-foot-six nose tackle John Ridgeway. How does he change the math upfront for the Razorbacks, and can Penn State improve against three-down fronts? T-Frank explains how Ridgeway is one of the only players up front that can fend off Penn State’s offensive linemen from getting to the second level of the defense.
From there, he takes a look at the rest of the players up front for the defense and explains how Penn State could take advantage of their play. He also highlights how the loss of razorback edge defender Tre Williams evens out the playing field with Walker out of the game.
Finally, T-Frank examines the defensive scheme and secondary.
