Penumbra in Retrospective
7It's hard to write this review. On one hand, I understand that there is no way they would have made Amnesia without learning from their mistakes in Penumbra, and as such, it's fair that they did some things wrong in Penumbra. They also did a lot of things right in Penumbra, and it's not a terrible game all in all.
But despite that, it's pretty clear to me that this game isn't terribly fun. It has a lot of very frustrating moments, it's too long for what it is and it's not as scary as Amnesia, Silent Hill or something like Fatal Frame or Siren. I have to say give it a pass, but at the same time, playing this really made me appreciate the lessons that they learned for Amnesia, I don't think Amnesia would have been possible if they hadn't made this first.
