If you want to play Perfect Dark on Steam Deck, 1964 GEPD is one of the best ways to do that bar none. Great performance, fantastic controls (track pad and gyro support) and more that shows off the game for the modern era. Setup tutorial video is listed below.
Retroarch DID NOT work out for me trying to run this game. Yes, it ran and yes I was able to use Steam Input to create a modern control scheme that's playable. With gyro even. But it never felt quite right. Performance wasn't what it should have been even after trying different settings in Retroarch. Many failed missions were the result due to those factors. It simply wasn't fun. I refuse to show those videos, due to how bad they are. Methinks I need to find a better way to emulate other N64 games on Deck, sooner than later.
1964 was the complete opposite. Had so much fun playing Perfect Dark (1964) that I played nothing else for hours. Even with Baldur's Gate 3 calling my name and Armored Core VI wondering when I'm coming through. Perfect Dark (the 1964 version) does one of the best jobs I've seen in showing why Perfect Dark is the classic it is.
