Ren and the group have finally reached Shadow Naoto. The shadow acts like a petulant child, a far cry from the cold and calculating Naoto everyone is used to. The Shadow is trying to use the laboratory to change Naoto's body. The Shadow Naoto reveals that they and the real Naoto are in fact female!

Once Shadow Naoto is defeated, Naoto reveals that she is ostracized in her detective work for being young, and hides her identity as a young woman to fit her and societies image of what a detective is supposed to be. She realizes her shadow was reflected her unwillingness to accept herself, and takes her first step in changing that. Her realization awakens the Persona Sukuna-Hikona.
