The release of the EndeavourOS 2021.04.17 project has been published , which replaced the Antergos distribution, the development of which was discontinuedin May 2019 due to the lack of free time for the remaining maintainers to maintain the project at the proper level. The distribution offers a simple installer to install a basic Arch Linux environment with the default Xfce desktop and the ability to install from the repository one of 9 generic desktops based on i3-wm, Openbox, Mate, Cinnamon, GNOME, BSPWM, Sway, Budgie and KDE. Endeavor OS allows the user to easily install Arch Linux with the necessary desktop in the form that he intended in his standard filling, offered by the developers of the selected desktop, without additional pre-installed programs. The size of the installation image is 1.9 GB (x86_64, ARM ).
In the new release:
For the ARM platform, two new editions of the distribution are proposed with custom environments based on bspwm and Sway .
Removed the ability to install a custom Deepin environment from the installer due to unresolved performance issues.
Updated versions of programs, including Linux kernel 5.11.14-arch-1-1, Calamares 3.2.39.3-2 installer, Firefox 87.0-2, Mesa 21.0.2-1 and nvidia-dkms 465.24.02-1.
An option has been added to the Calamares installer to send installation logs to Pastebin to make it easier to diagnose failures during installation.
The problem with using drivers for NVIDIA video cards has been resolved.
Add-ons for Virtualbox have been added to the repository, which are required to work with USB devices from virtual environments.
Added Pacdiff tool to Welcome app to manage system changes and package configuration files. Added a Software news button to display a summary of changes and bug fixes. Added the ability to select existing or download additional wallpapers for the desktop.
The Developer Said “BSPWM is a tiling window manager that is based on Xorg and Sway being the i3-wm replacement running on Wayland. Both editions are customized by our community members with an EndeavourOS touch and can run independently or on top of a DE,”.
