A proof-of-concept of the early stages of a double-walking-speed patch for Phantasy Star III, with a mostly-working intro cutscene. I got this far by standing on the shoulders of giants, among them Tony Hedstrom, Hugues Johnson, lory90, and tryphon.

This was quite the challenge. Without a level of 68000 assembly knowledge that is frankly beyond me, that left only a limited number of actions I could take in the cutscene to make it work. Making things even more challenging is that if Maia (Your bride following you) goes too far off-screen, she simply stops moving. But she's a solid object, so if you pause in the wrong place and she gets ahead of you, that messes things up too.

In the end, I like how this looks. I love the idea of Rhys being so drunk with love that he temporarily forgets where he's supposed to go, then stops to have a chat with his guard bro, all the while thinking "Jeez Maia HURRY UP!" as she ambles along behind.
