0We begin Perils of Darkness, a non-linear Legend of Zelda ROM Hack!
This hack's author, The3Dude, has done a couple other Zelda hacks. One, Link's Shadow, I gave up on very early due to the fact it seems like you're supposed to get through most of Level 1 with just bombs, which are limited. Some time later, I went back and even read the included readme just to see if I was missing anything, and no, it just seems like you're intended to use save states to get through using as few bombs as possible.
Regardless, this one, Perils of Darkness, I'm enjoying a lot more. It's very in the spirit of the original Legend of Zelda in that the first quest is nonlinear to the point where the dungeons aren't even numbered--it's just "If you think you're too weak to be in this dungeon, you're probably right, especially if you hear 'Level 9 music' in it." So far, I recommend it! You can download the patch at https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/5455/ (Note that I had issues with RHDN's online patcher when patching this. My guess is it doesn't like the fact that multiple patches are included with it. Regardless, I had to use Lunar IPS to manually patch the "normal" difficulty version, which is what I'm playing)
In this video, I complete two dungeons and part of a third, and acquire a Sword, Power Bracelet, Bombs, Medicine, Bow and Arrows, and a Blue Candle, as well as 4 hearts to bring my total to 7.
