440The assault class is your solid, balanced, middle performer of the early game class. They lack the early game weaknesses of the heavies, but aren't the crutch that the snipers will be early on.
Pretty quickly though, assaults mature into extremely effective operatives. At their heart, they give you mobility, flexibility, and one of the most powerful kill chaining abilities in the game, serving up up a class that can do a dynamic clearance with a shotgun, or anchor the team with an assault rifle.
Assaults are cheap (compared to heavies) cross class effectively, and are useful from level 2 all the way through to their engame status as psychotic spree killers that can put down half a dozen targets in the space of a few seconds.
If you absolutely, positively have to clear a map in one turn, you're going to want an assault.
