Before NES, before Sega… there was Pick Axe Pete! 🔨 Released in 1982 for the Magnavox Odyssey² (known as the Philips Odyssey in Brazil), this was the very first game that truly captured my heart. My brother and I got the console for Christmas in either 1983 or 1984, and this game—Didi na Mina Encantada as it was called in Brazil—was pure magic.

Dodging boulders, smashing walls, climbing pixelated ladders… for a game from the early ’80s, the action was intense and the gameplay surprisingly addictive. And knowing the console itself came from the late ’70s makes it even more mind-blowing.
