Plan for HMS Victory to change hands 29.02.12
It is reported that the Royal Navy could relinquish control of its most famous ship HMS Victory. She is currently commissioned in the Royal Navy and still has a crew and a commanding officer. Now the Sun is reporting she could be handed to a museum. The Ministry of Defence has told Forces News there are no plans to sell HMS Victory but that various options for its future are being considered. None of the choices would change the status of the vessel as the flagship of the Second Sea Lord or see it leave Portsmouth. It is more likely that a technical change in ownership of the vessel will take place, transferring its care from the MOD to the National Museum of the Royal Navy. The change would allow access to funding to maintain the ship not currently available.
