The 1st Battalion The Scots Guards have been on pre-deployment training at Catterick Garrison.

The unit is part of 4 Mechanised Brigade which is expected to head to Afghanistan in the autumn.

Training included patrol skills as well as classroom-based tuition on Afghan culture.

The Battalion last deployed in 2010 but 50 per cent of the Guardsman are preparing for their first tour of the country.
