Planet Nomads: Monorail 2.0
Having been developing the original monorail system for two years now, I have spent a lot of time thinking about what the next generation should look like.
There were several main criteria a next-generation system should bring:
- Superior speed, while maintaining or improving reliability
- Tracks should have the smallest possible cross-section and a block count as low as possible
- Greater comfort and space in coaches, higher ceilings, potential to carry small choppers and cars
- Automated doors
and I could go on.
What you can see in the video, after the short intro with the truck done in collaboration with Sergius.Grey, is the second design, the T1101 that, so far, has met most of the criteria above. It could be a little bigger, like its predecessor, the T1001 (also featured). That design however proved partly flawed, as the heavy superstructure (due to the heavy base walls) caused the train to rock, what had a significant impact on the smoothness of the ride.
Thus the T1101 is a design focused on getting as much of the weight as possible below the track, and in this regard, it was very successful. There is a plan for an elongated version, which will allow for an automated door instead of the chute compromise. The point of this design was to prove the concept.
As you can see in the video, the T1101 can sustain speeds in excess of 100 kph for prolonged periods of time, and this all with zero accidents so far. Wheel glitches do occur on occasion, as we were lucky to catch on video, but all of them, have always resolved themselves within a dozen seconds.
The rest of the video is a show of some other of my recent toys, all of which will eventually be available in the workshop, I just need to write tons of text, organize screenshots, etc...
Please note, that in the video, the frame rate is progressively dropping. This seems to be due to known issues caused by long-distance and fast travel in combination with many large structures in one place and a lot of joints and suspensions.
The length of the next-gen test track is aproximately 8 km.
The entire video was taken in one shot, on the first try. No cuts for loads mean bad FPS.
Many thanks and kudoz to Sergius.Grey, without whose truck this video would not be as much fun!
