We now have two groups to defeat and three turns to do it. Fortunately, though, they’re the weakest of the original four, and I’m confident that I can defeat them both in a single turn. When I return to Sector C8, I choose to attack the group labeled “the low level robot group”. As the game implies, there’s little to worry about here. The opposition consists of one Laser RoboBrain and three Battle Bot Phasors, a force that poses little threat at this stage of the game. As always, the Laser RoboBrain is a high-priority target, so I have the group concentrate its fire on that first. We reduce its health by about half, and then the enemy concentrates their fire on Joshua. On our next turn we kill off the RoboBrain, and then we start on one of the Battle Bots. They continue to concentrate their fire on Joshua and reduce his health to 63, but on the next turn I have Jacob heal him back up to full health while the group continues to fire on the Battle Bot. From there, it’s smooth sailing. We kill off the weakened Battle Bot and the other two aren’t able to inflict enough damage to require another heal for the rest of the battle. Soon enough those two are wiped out and we’ve won another battle. Since our party members haven’t taken much wear and tear, I immediately attack the fourth and final group without resting first.

The final group is a force of RoboBrains, three Lasers and one Master. Facing three Lasers at once is a bit of a concern because our initial target is going to have two healers supporting it, and in earlier fights that would have likely overwhelmed us. At this stage of the game, though, we have much stronger weapons and we should be able to inflict damage faster than they can repair it. I have the group focus fire on the Laser in the center-left of the screen, and while we inflict plenty of damage Jacob’s Disrupt attempt misses. Predictably, the other two Lasers repair their buddy and wipe out most of our work, but on the next turn we’re able to kill it anyway. I then have Jacob cast Disrupt on one of the two remaining Lasers, and this time he’s right on target. After taking a few shots from the enemy, I have the group focus fire on the Disrupted Laser and we nearly kill it. Unfortunately, a few too many missed shots let it survive this turn, and then its buddy repairs it to 50 health. We’re able to kill it next turn, though, and since there’s only one Laser left we won’t have to worry about enemy repair work anymore. Unfortunately, though, Michelle’s really taken a beating from enemy fire at this point. I decide to have her take an Ultimate MediKit while the rest of the party attacks the Laser, and we reduce it to around half-health. I’m expecting to kill it next turn, but the Master RoboBrain gives us a setback with its Energy Shock special. It targets Joshua and Shocks him for two turns, leaving him unable to attack. I try and fail to have Joshua Cure himself, then have the rest of the party target the Laser. Despite Joshua’s non-participation, we still kill the Laser on the turn, and now all that’s left is the Master. The Master’s standard attack isn’t that dangerous and it can’t stand against a full party, so we steadily finish him off.

Joshua and Michelle each gain a level from the battle; I allocate Joshua’s skill points into Sneak and Michelle’s into Lockpick. Moreover, with the RoboBrains defeated we’ve officially completed the first part of the endgame, and all our characters receive an additional 300 XP that causes Rumi to level up. I allocate her skill points into Medicine, then return to the colony. After resting at the barracks, we head to the science lab to talk to Lucille and get an update. She congratulates us on defeating the robot army, but the threat’s not over yet. The Descoria robot factory has been upgraded and they can quickly manufacture a new robot army to replace the one we destroyed. We’re not going to be able to compete with their industrial capacity over the long run, so Lucille explains that our only chance of winning this conflict is to destroy the factory and take away the enemy’s ability to replace losses. A frontal assault isn’t going to be effective, so we’ll have to break into the factory with a small team and destroy it from the inside. Lucille warns us that because stealth is so important, we’ll only be able to take three teammates with us—we can’t swap between battles for this operation. That’s not really a concern because I’ve been relying on the same team for a while now without swapping, and our current team has all the noncombat skills we’ll need. Even so, it’s going to be a dangerous mission.
