Joel Craddock, PhD, Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Doctors For Nutrition New South Wales Lead Dietitian.
Joel worked as a clinical dietitian in an assortment of hospitals across New South Wales, Australia. In 2018, he started a private dietetic practice ‘Purely Plants’, which exclusively advocates a plant-based approach to eating.
He is currently employed by the University of Sydney as a lecturer and researcher with a focus on nutrition, health and physical activity. Joel submitted his PhD last year which explored plant-based eating patterns, health and exercise performance outcomes. Other areas of research he has explored include omega-3 fatty acid intake and the influence of dietary creatine on performance in vegetarian populations.
Outside of work and study, Joel has a passion for keeping active and enjoying time with his family. When he was 23 he ran from Melbourne to Sydney raising $58,000 for the McGrath Foundation (Breast cancer support foundation). Most recently he set the world record for the most elevation gained in a 24 hour bike ride (23,292m) (Guiness Book of Records confirmation pending).
Joel is on the Advisory Council for health promoting charity Doctors For Nutrition. Their mission is to empower healthcare professionals with knowledge about the undeniable benefits of whole food plant-based nutrition. They do this by placing knowledge at the finger-tips of all health professionals via educational events, webinars, free fact sheets and other practical tools. Doctors For Nutrition also advocates to decision makers across the healthcare sector and the government, as well as engages with the broader community.
