This game started life as a spiritual successor to the "Wonder Boy"/"Monster World" series, but then the main developer for that series heard of it and gave the developers here clearance to turn it into a fully-fledged installment, hence the portmanteau title of "Monster Boy". This game is really fun, and also has a fun silliness to it and a cartoony aesthetic which greatly appeals to me.
