In this video I (CrimsonRayne) takes a look at all of the rumours surrounding the new Xbox 720 AKA Durango, and the Playstation 4 AKA Orbis.
Both machines are extremely impressive on paper, and while it's certain that both systems will feature things such as a BluRay drive, and of course, the regular host of connections such as HDMI, what about the actual things that power the systems?
I take an analysis dealing with the GPU of both machines, (which in the case of Playstation 4 orbis) is a slightly cutdown version of the 7970. It features a slightly slower core speed (running at 'only' 800mhz and 2 less cores.
We then delve into the memory of the system, which is generally the sticking point for many consoles. The PS4 seemingly uses the extremely fast RAM, GDDR5, which is typically reserved for higher end graphics cards. It features 4GB of RAM, with apparently 512MB exclusively reserved for the Operating System. The Xbox 720 however is a little differentm using the slower DDR3 ram that is traditionally used on PC's for their main system RAM. Because this memory is far cheaper, the system comes packed with 8GB, with rumour saying 3GB of that is reserved for system use.
The CPU is a little different, both featuring AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) CPU's, apparently 8 cores, and clocked at 1.6GHZ. These CPU's (using AMD's new Jaguar technology) are reported to be extremely power efficient, and have a great amount of instructions per clock.
