Part 4:
In this part I commit genocide against Rabites, causing Black Rabites to invade the lands in their place. You need to kill 999 of any monster to make their Black variant appear, and Rabites are the easiest monster to accomplish that with.

I've read on Kain Stryder's FAQ on GameFAQs that all Black monsters have their stats increased by 100 points each, except for HP, which are increased by 500 instead; Experience Points and Lucre drops are affected the same way, but I remember not actually getting the extra Experience on the first Black Rabite I killed beck when I played the game for the first time (I could be misremembering though).

Aside from gaining lots of Experience Points early in the game, "farming" Black Rabites is also useful because all Black monsters have a chance of dropping a Crystal, which is used to forge some of the best equipment; another reason is that you can level-up your weapon and magic skills much faster by just using them against the Black Rabites (you don't even have to kill them).
