Pravdepodobne nikoho neprekvapí, že hlavnou hrdinkou je opäť lovkyňa pokladov Lara Croft. Tentokrát sa ocitnete v oblasti mayskej civilizácie v Južnej Amerike. Lara sem však neprišla navštíviť historické pamiatky, ale zvrátiť blížiacu sa mayskú apokalypsu. Aj po neskutočných dvadsiatich dvoch rokoch trvania tejto kultovej hernej série zostáva základné jadro samotnej hry rovnaké. So svojou hrdinkou trávite hodiny riešením najrôznejších hádaniek, skúmaním historických chrámov a hľadaním pokladov. A samozrejme, ako je už zvykom, nie ste jediní, kto chce cenné poklady získať, a nevyhnete sa tak nepríjemným, najčastejšie ozbrojeným, potýčkam so všadeprítomnými nepriateľmi.
