PMD: Cryptic Conundrum - Completing Undiscovered Offlimit
Welcome back to my series where I complete the "ultimate dungeons" in PMD games! An ultimate dungeon is a 99F level-reset dungeon where you can't bring in items, and I will complete all of them from official PMD games to ROM hacks. As an additional challenge, I won't be allowing quicksaving or rescuing, so I need to beat it in one go.
In this video, I complete Undiscovered Offlimit. This dungeon has 99 floors, temporarily resets your team's levels to 1, and prohibits you from bringing in items or money. It is unlocked by completing the four main dungeons in the following order: Withered Field, Impure Treehollow, Faded Highlands, and Dampened Cave.
Undiscovered Offlimit is a dungeon I made for the update to Cryptic Conundrum, a game I made for SkyTemple's fourth Game Jam in Autumn 2022. Unlike most level-reset dungeons, you're locked into using Eevee and Bisharp. It features nearly every enemy that can be fought in the game, all of which have custom movesets. Most of these movesets focus on damage and stat drops, while others focus on statuses. Additionally, the dungeon is full of fixed rooms. Examples of these rooms are mazes, boss fights, and one-room Monster Houses. Some of these also require Rock Smash, which means you'll have to keep one of Eevee's move slots occupied, or keep the HM in your bag. At the end of the dungeon is a secret boss fight with a Zorua and Finneon, which represent me and Adex (Adex coded that entire section by the way). Your reward for reaching the end of the dungeon is two Protect TMs, but your bonus reward for beating the boss is a Tight Belt, Goggle Specs, Mobile Scarf, and Agility TM. Although these are only used for the final dungeon and final boss, they should no doubt carry you through easily.
Despite thinking that being stuck to using the same Pokémon would be detrimental, every enemy is balanced around them and none of them are too hard to beat. Your team also has very distinct roles. Eevee is quite defensive that can throw out powerful Adaptability-boosted moves, while Bisharp is a glass cannon with powerful attacks and a handful of resistances. You also get a lot of important resources in the dungeon like Apples, Oran Berries, Max Elixirs, and Reviver Seeds. This also means you're encouraged to spam your moves instead of relying on regular attacks to conserve PP. The one-room Monster Houses can be tricky, but they're easier if you focus on one enemy at a time. The secret boss is hard but is much more manageable with Protect, so don't forget to pick those up. Overall, this "ultimate dungeon" feels easier than others like Destiny Tower, but definitely not free.
