OK, I have no idea what Pocket Kingdom is. Frankly, I don't think Nokia or SEGA knew what it was, and they made it. It's a massively multiplayer online game for the Nokia N-Gage, except not massive, not multiplayer, and not online. Does that clear anything up? No? Great.

NOKIA N-GAGE
===

The N-Gage was a smartphone combining features of a mobile phone and a handheld game system developed by Nokia, announced on 4 November 2002 and released on 7 October 2003. It runs the original Series 60 platform on Symbian OS v6.1. N-Gage attempted to lure gamers away from the Game Boy Advance by including telephone functionality. This was unsuccessful, partly because the buttons, designed for a telephone, were not well-suited for gaming. The original N-Gage was described as resembling a taco, which led to its mocking nickname “Taco phone”. The N-Gage was discontinued in November 2005, with Nokia moving its gaming capabilities onto selected Series 60 smartphones. This was announced as the N-Gage platform or “N-Gage 2.0” in 2007, carrying on the N-Gage name.

Pocket Kingdom: Own the World is a mobile Massively Multiplayer Online Game for the Nokia N-Gage, by Sega. The game is a spiritual sequel to an earlier SEGA game, Dragon Force, which was for the Sega Saturn. The theme is somewhat atypical for a video game, since it makes fun of the usual conventions of MMORPGs: here, every character knows they are in a video game, talks in leet-speak, and even the plot itself is about replacing three griefers who were banned from a high score table. The game features both online (using the N-Gage Arena) and offline modes; both are similar, but in the online mode you can find other players and talk to or attack them – or be attacked by them. The crafting system is extensive – according to the authors, there are more than 50,000 possible object combinations. Most of the game consists of buying units, equipping them, setting battle tactics, and sending them into battles. With experience, and using crafted “emblems”, characters can be upgraded into more powerful and varied classes.
