Pocky and Rocky (SNES) Challenge Run - Beating The Final Level in a Recovery Run (Hard Mode)
2In this video i challenge myself into beating the Final Level (Battle with Black Mantle) with both Pocky and Rocky on 2 separate runs in a recovery run which means i deliberaly get a game over and continue from the last level while i also make it so deathless. As i noted in my previous runs while the game has unlimited continues, it punishes you harshly in doing so as you lose all the extra hit points gained for beating all the previous stages back to only 4 hearts worth of hit points. The final stage is where most players will more than likely get stuck as both Black Mantle and its 2 statues have alot of health and its more likely players used most of their lives and bombs on the previous stage as dracula is also a tough boss. Doing this type of run on the Final Level is pretty tough as you have to do the entire stage pretty much hitless as health recovery items are located just before the mid boss guarding Black Mantle and the enemies have some weird and tricky patterns that you have to learn otherwise you will get screwed. On hard mode since you get no bombs to start with, you will only have one bomb pickup that YOU MUST get to stand a chance against Black Mantle as if both statues stays alive more than 3 seconds, their combined attck patterns becomes literally impossible to dodge so the bomb is used to deal with the statues ASAP.
Pocky's bomb is pretty weak diagonally and only one bomb at the center wont destroy the statues so with her, your best bet is to bomb one side than manually destroy the other while dodging its projectiles. Rocky has a much easier time as one bomb at the center will destroy both statues at once leaving only the actual fight with Black Mantle left. In the end while attempting this run i wasnt actually going for a deathless run but since i got Black Mantle memorized so well, it became possible to perform it so i am pretty happy with the end result.
