The entire Elite Four sequence of the bug mono challenge. Unlike I expected, I could make good use of more Pokemon than I had expected. Not only is my strategy-making not limited to Heracross and Ninjask and their co-operation, but I even withdrew my lv. 33 Beautifly from the PC because it had something to contribute, believe it or not.

Since my Heracross has Guts, I wondered if I should enter the field poisoned to enable a sweep, but figured that poison is the last thing I want.

Sidney is terribly straightforward. I got Heracross to 1 HP in Victory Road (thanks to Endure) and just spammed Reversal for 225 base power off its wild physical attack stat. It OHKOs everything in spite of Mightyena's Intimidate affecting the damage output, since the base power is so high and everything is weak to it. It outspeeds all Sidney's Pokemon without needing a Speed Boost baton pass from Ninjask.

Phoebe is trickier, mostly because Heracross can't hurt anything with its moveset (all damaging moves on it are fighting-type). Ninjask with its STAB Aerial Ace also fails to OHKO those pesky Dusclops tanks after accumulating Swords Dance bonuses. One of them even packs Rock Slide for a surprise OHKO. Here I set up Shedinja instead, which is pretty hard knowing that all the Pokemon here are able to KO it fairly easily, as beneficial as its ghost-type may be. This is why I baton pass a Substitute with Ninjask (after paralysing the lead Dusclops), giving it a better chance to stay alive. Shadow Ball hits everything super-effectively, besides Sableye who hasn't got a single weakness. Its base defence is shoddy though, so two Swords Dance boosts passed unto Shedinja are enough to secure an OHKO against it (as well as everything else on Phoebe's team).

Glacia is the same story as Sidney. Brick Break won't OHKO but Reversal sweeps everything without any need for setup. We shouldn't hesitate with using it, because if Hail is set, Endure strats won't really work.

Finally, Drake the dragonmaster of the Hoenn region. His lead is excellent setup bait, outsped by our underlevelled Beautifly. Other Pokemon can simplify setting up on it by adding confusion and accuracy falls into the mix. It's irritating just how accurate Rock Tomb is after all that, though, but we do have Substitute. I pass SD boosts to Heracross yet again. This time around, Reversal is not very effective against Altaria (who packs decent bulk) and Salamence, and the latter cuts attack upon entering the field. However, even an ineffective Reversal hurts a lot after some Swords Dance/Bulk Up boosts, and Endure helps Heracross to sweep.
It's funny how on a few attempts in a row I had to reset because Flygon's Flamethrower kept burning Heracross just as it used Endure, ruining my setup plans. This shouldn't happen most of the time, though.

We face Wallace, the champion, next.
