1We had four usable party members, one of them got insta-killed by something I almost never have to deal with, and the newest party member was the MVP. What a win.
Anyway, out of the mainline games, Gen 3 was the start of Pokemon's first dark age (which would last until gen 5; the second one is currently in full swing, may it end in gen 10) and Emerald doesn't actually help that much. Not as extreme as Platinum (about which my feelings are basically "polish a turd, it's still a turd"), but not top tier. Sorry.
