Pokemon HeartGold - Hardcore Nuzlocke - Randomized - [4]
Oh the Misery, everybody wants to be my enemy.
The Rules...
1 - Any Pokémon that faints must be released or boxed permanently. It is considered “dead” for the rest of the challenge.
2 - Only the first wild Pokémon encountered in a route or area can be caught. If the player fails to catch it (ie. it flees or faints), their opportunity to catch a Pokémon in that area is lost.
I also apply Duplicate Clause: If the first Pokémon in an area is one the player already owns, they may continue battling until they encounter one they do not own, and then attempt to catch it. This rule prevents a player from having multiples of the same Pokémon, especially early in the game when the selection of different Pokémon on the first few routes is limited.
And finally, I have a personal special clause, because that is how I have always done nuzlockes: If there is an Overworld Pokémon (excluding Pokémon Games where Overworld Pokemon are common), then it can be caught regardless of Route or Area. The Specific species of Pokemon as represented by their Overworld Sprite, is considered the Capturable target.
3 - The player must nickname all Pokémon they catch or obtain.
4 - The player may not use items in battle. Pokémon may hold items, but no items from the bag (except for Balls) may be used.
5 - The player may not level any of their Pokémon past the level of the next “boss trainer’s” highest leveled Pokémon. “Boss trainers” include Gym Leaders, and when entering the Pokémon League, the final Elite Four member (Champion).
Any Pokémon who exceed the level cap must be boxed, and cannot be used until they are under the level cap. Exceeding the level cap during the battle is allowed, you must simply enter the battle with no Pokémon over the level cap.
