The goal here is to knock out as much stuff from Cinnabar as possible, which is why we do the Pokemon Mansion, the Gym, and then restore our fossil from Mt. Moon all at once. There is an Old Amber in Pewter City that you can get if you want Aerodactyl, but I don't, so I don't bother with it.

Ultimately, I am a little surprised with how much the Cinnabar Gym has changed from previous versions. I opt to fight all of the trainers, and you can see how Dugtrio can tear through everything. Based on what I know now, I may have gone with Poliwrath as my water type, which also would have been able to crush everything it came across. Oh well.
