Part 30 of my Pokemon Sapphire Walkthrough/Guide for the Gameboy Advance
In this part, I encounter a Shiny Hariyama, and explain how natures, IV and EV values work. I also demonstrate what difference this can make on your team

A few things to keep in mind:
- The Shiny Encounter is legit. Like I stated, the only modifications I used were PokéSav ones, I did not use any VBA codes to make shinies appear. However, due to a certain edit, apparently it's easier to find a Shiny after a Sav modification (Info by Cuddleofdeath)
- The dex was filled as much as I could get without trading. Exceptions are the Pokémon you find in the Shoal Cave and Feebas. Sav was used to get the stones faster, although I could've hunted for these items myself. Sav was used here to save time! Nothing that's impossible to get in this game was used!

To those who don't want to listen, or want to read instead:

-- Natures
List: http://serebii.net/games/natures.shtml
Natures were introduced in 3rd Generation as an extra addition to the game. A nature gives a 10% stat boost in a certain stat, and a 10% stat drop in another. Having the correct nature could make a significant difference.

A few things to keep in mind:
- Natures will never boost HP. Nor drop it. HP is a number which isn't influenced by Natures
- Natures can not be modified in-game. Either recatch your Pokémon or use PokéSav to edit the nature of your Pokémon
- The Hardy, Docile, Serious, Bashful, and Quirky natures do NOT add stats, nor drop them.

-- IV's (Individual Values)
Source: http://serebii.net/games/ivs.shtml
IV's are unique to every single Pokémon. They will be distributed among your Pokémon and make the difference between stats upon capturing.

Some notes about IV's:
- IV's range from 0 to 31 on All stats.
- The maximum of IV's is 180. Which means that, except for 6 points, you could max out all the IV's on your stats.
- I'm pretty sure that it's impossible to get a Pokémon with 0 IV's, nor one with 180 IV's. These values are only obtainable through PokéSav, and are only used in the video to demonstrate the difference.
- I'm not sure however what values are allowed and not allowed on Wi-Fi battles. If someone has information about that, let me know!

-- EV's (Effort Values)
Source: http://serebii.net/games/evs.shtml
Effort Values are the values you get from training your Pokémon. For every Pokémon you beat, your Pokémon will get 1, 2, or 3 points in a certain stat. A rattata, for example, gives 1 EV in Speed, a Raticate gives 2.

Some notes about EV's:
- EV's are capped at a maximum of 510 total, and a maximum of 255.
- Since you get 1 point per 4 EV's, having a EV of 252 on a certain stat is the maximum you need.
- If your Pokémon has an EXP Share, one EV in the obtained stat will be passed on to the exp share holder. If you battle a rattata with an exp share, both Pokémon get 1 EV in Speed.
- Holding a Macho Brace in battle doubles the EV's you get.
- Having PokéRus doubles your EV's. Holding a Macho Brace while having PokéRus therefore quadruples your EV gain. Info about Pokérus can be obtained here: http://www.serebii.net/games/pokerus.shtml
