Gameboy games that save data use a battery inside the cartridge to keep the data alive on the cart. In this case the battery inside the cartridge has died and will need to be replaced. This is a quick video showing how to replace that battery correctly using a soldering iron. This will erase any save data on the cart so I recommend doing this when you first get the game.
