Pokémon Sword & Shield - Ready and Qwilling - Feb 5 22 C
I don't know if you know about it or not, but I keep a spreadsheet of the base stats of every fully-evolved Pokémon, as well as some not-fully-evolved ones that have made the rounds in online play (like Chansey, Porygon2, and Galarian Corsola). I made this spreadsheet during the tail end of Generation V and have been updating it since. Most recently, the day before Pokémon Legends: Arceus came out, I updated this spreadsheet with the new additions from that game, and there were a lot of them! There were well over a dozen new entries.
As a general rule though, I do not consult it in the middle of a match. I don't use any other resources either, as I don't consider it fair if one side looks up information while the other side does not. I get by entirely on memorization.
Type: Single Battle
Opponent: ともき (Tomoki) (8)
Stadium: Default Stadium
Music: Hop 2
My Pokémon: Haxorus, Qwilfish (Johtonian), Eiscue
Opponent's Pokémon: ウーラオス (Urshifu) (Single Strike), ザシアン (Zacian), ウソッキー (Sudowoodo)
Going down my opponent's lineup, at first I thought this was a Rock-type team, as the first three Pokémon--Sudowoodo, Lycanroc, and Tyranitar--are all Rock-type. The bottom half, however, consists of Xerneas, Zacian, and Urshifu, none of whom are Rock-type. I wonder if an all-Rock team was planned but ran out of steam halfway.
Whatever the case, this is the first team of this season to actually make use of the "2 Restricted Pokémon per team" rule, which my opponent used to put both Zacian and Xerneas onto this team. Both of them are incredibly fearsome Pokémon with insanely high offense that can each finish off an entire team with ease. Accordingly, I expected to see the both of them, since I've had my fair share of opponents since Generation IV who were all too eager to unleash their full might on anyone they come across online. That's why I picked the Pokémon I did, though it might not be immediately obvious. As it seems, only Zacian was selected, with Xerneas sitting this one out.
If you hadn't known about it yet, not only did Qwilfish get a Hisuian form in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but Hisuian Qwilfish can evolve into Overqwil. That was the Pokémon I used in the Tidbits #1 video. Though Overqwil is my favorite of the new Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, this Johtonian Qwilfish will remain on my team. Though a new regional form and an evolution is pretty much a death knell for the previous form's usage online, I do think Johtonian Qwilfish has some advantages over the Dark/Poison Hisuian Qwilfish and even Overqwil. One of those advantages is illustrated right here in the battle with Zacian: Johtonian Qwilfish is Water/Poison, allowing them to resist attacks from both Steel and Fairy, making it very suitable to fight Zacian in a way that Hisuian Qwifish and Overqwil struggle to do.
By the way, this video may be quite short, but the original recording of this battle was about 11 minutes long. As it seems, by opponent takes long periods of time between decisions, enough that I could excise about 7 minutes out. I can't really say why though. Maybe they're gathering information about my Pokémon and couldn't finish until later.
