I could have caught a Spearow after the Poké Center on Route 2 where it is more common, but that wastes a lot of time. I went for the 10% encounter rate here and I caught it with full health using a Great Ball. I traded it for the Hawlucha here and I bought some Super Potions while depositing Popplio in the PC. I spent some time on Refresh with Hawlucha and I started the trial in Verdant Cavern. The Rattatas are easy OHKO's, but they can use Quick Attack and I picked up the TM Brick Break.
I could have saved here since the Drowzee can barely survive 2 Wing Attacks and I need Hawlucha to have decent speed and defenses, but I didn't. The Raticate is also a OHKO and I taught Hawlucha Brick Break and brought it to level 2 in Refresh. The totem Raticate is also a OHKO with Break Break and I left the cave with some cutscenes stalling me.

Saved at 1:06 with a L13 Hawlucha.
